Second
Straight Team McBride Final
Team McBride riders, Larry McBride
and Jimmy Brantley respectively advanced to their second consecutive final
of the season at the AMA/Prostar MTC Elmer Trett Nationals from Atlanta,
GA, April 1st-2nd.
“It’s incredible to have it happen two races in a row,”
McBride said. “I feel very fortunate. Without our great sponsors,
we couldn’t do it.”
“It was an awesome race for the team,” Brantley said. “Larry
and Steve put together two incredible motorcycles.”
Like their first meeting a month ago in Valdosta, GA, it was veteran McBride
who took the win. This time McBride defeated his teammate with a 6.08
at 229 mph to Brantley’s 6.24 at 210 mph.
“I’m a little more accustomed to running Atlanta than Jimmy,”
McBride said. “The shutdown is a little short and Jimmy shut it
off right at about 1000 feet. He’s doing a great job. Riding one
of these things isn’t easy.”
McBride was the top qualifier
and ran a new Atlanta Dragway track record on Saturday with a 5.87 at
233 mph.

“I think Elmer was riding with me,” McBride said. “The
wind was blowing pretty hard but as soon as we went to make our runs all
the wind went away. It was a great run. It was straight as an arrow and
the conditions were prefect.”
Brantley qualified in the No. 2 spot with a 6.06 at 225 mph. On race day
Brantley chopped his way through the full eight bike bracket by defeating
Ray Cason and Ron Webb with ETs of 6.28 and 6.31.
McBride got by a broke Paul Richardson in round No. 1 with a 7.56 and
defeated former Funny Bike champion Travis Davis in round No. 2 with a
6.16.
“It was great to have the Funny Bikes racing with us,” McBride
said. “The ones that came over were all good guys.”
